The islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao forms  a chain of islands in the Caribbean known as the Leeward Antilles. Together these islands has an installed wind capacity of approximately 71 MW. These islands feature the longest continuous history of wind energy utilization in the Caribbean (since 1983), as well as a novel 28 MW integrated (bio-diesel/wind/storage) energy system on the island of Bonaire since 2010. What is also notably is that the Playa Kanoa wind farm on the island of Curacoa features one of the best wind resources in the Caribbean and Central America, if not in the world, with average wind speed between 9.0 and 9.5 m/s at a hub height of 48 m.
