WattsOn: Net-billing Resumes in Jamaica

As of today (April 11, 2016) renewable energy enthusiasts in Jamaica will again be able to apply for licences to sell their excess electricity to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS). Dr Andrew Wheatley, the new Minister of Science, Energy & Technology (MSET), yesterday announced that the Office of UtilitiesRegulation (OUR) will resume accepting applications on behalf of the ministry for net billing under similar terms as the previously-concluded net billing pilot project until the details of a permanent programme are finalised.

The two-year pilot programme was extended to May 2015, as the system peak demand threshold for net billing was not met. As at March 2015, 351 applications were received, 311 of which were granted licences, the ministry said.
